Cosmetology is a rapidly expanding field that is impossible to follow for a human being. It is estimated that there are dozens journals focusing on the science of cosmetics, cosmetic chemistry, and cosmetology. Textbooks and dictionaries tend to age rapidly. The significant overlap between scientific language and marketing adds to the confusion. For example, terms like "atopic skin", "dermocosmetics", "cosmeceuticals", "exosomes", "stem cells" may sound very scientific, however, are mostly used for the purpose of "science washing" or even "scienceploitation". Careless translations from national languages to English and then from English to another national language also add to the confusion. This situation is challenging to experts, let alone novices to the specialty. Nevertheless, one cannot leave everything to artificial intelligence. Hence this humble attempt at creating a platform intended to be a grid for cosmetology definitions and concepts relevant in cosmetology presented as short encyclopedic entries, supplemented with in-depth, evidence-based comments supported by relevant literature sources. A second, perhaps even more important goal was to create a platform for communication and exchange of ideas between all those interested. Inevitably, the founder and editor-in-chief is left to his own resources to feed the content to the journal until other authors hopefully take notice and are convinced to publish. Especially when no global publishing company is involved in this independent, citizen project. It's no surprise, then, that almost all the articles in inaugural issues are written by the editor-in-chief. However, I firmly believe that this will be only a temporary situation. I look forward to collaborating with the thriving community of scientists involved in the area, including cosmetologists, chemists, pharmacists, dermatologists, doctors practicing esthetic medicine, and all researchers and scientists interested in concise definitions in cosmetology.
